Lilly Pulitzer - designer, entrepreneur, author and First Lady of summer - passed away earlier this month. She leaves behind a legacy of bright, beautiful prints, easy-breezy shifts and the belief that bare feet never go out of style. For those of us who love her brand, it's a time to look back and remember some very happy days spent in her very happy clothes . . .

For many years my sister and her husband lived outside Washington D.C. At one point they lived just down the street from a Lilly store in Old Town, Alexandria . . . I stumbled in one day and walked out a pink and green convert. The first item I purchased was the shift shown above; this was before we'd even been matched with Adrienne. It hung in her nursery while we waited, and in some small way it gave me hope.
